Biodiversity Informatics is a young discipline. Particularly in the Indian context, the diverse and distributed nature of data, and the range of stakeholders involved in generating and using the data, calls for a participative, inclusive collaborative effort to develop a biodiversity information system for India.

The India Biodiversity Portal is managed by a consortium of partners. It brings together expertise from research, civil society, advocacy, information technology and legal domains with a strong commitment to open data for effective biodiversity conservation in India.
